A RUSTING cargo ship allegedly used to transport $165 million of heroin is Australia's most expensive court exhibit.

Taxpayers have paid more than $1 million to keep the North Korean freighter Pong Su moored in Sydney Harbour since it was seized by Australian Federal Police investigating the alleged trafficking of 125kg of heroin a year ago.

A floating barrier has been put in place to prevent oil leaking from the engine from polluting the harbour.
