The man who tricked jail officials into releasing Rana showed them an identity card and said three more policemen were waiting in a vehicle outside, the Times of India report said.
The officials realised their blunder an hour later when the real six-member police team arrived to collect him.
News reports said Rana’s escape pointed to serious flaws in security at the high-profile jail.
