I can understand his frustration, but using your blog to call your boss or a colleague a "coward" is probably not smart. It's something I can imagine doing in the heat of battle or after an exhausting and frustrating day, but I don't think it's shocking to be fired for it.

Yeah. I can't really envision a situation where I'd have to call my current boss a coward. I can, however, see the situation arising given the right/wrong circumstances. As an at will employee (and a political appointee, at that) there is little recourse should the boss decide I've got the wrong eye color or something. Thus the anonymous nature of my postings. Humm. Maybe I'll reinstall that ghost surfing program, too. . .

On the other hand, there are some First Amendment issues when a public employee is fired for speaking out on a matter of public interest. It is not clear to me that those issues would apply in this case - any First Amendment lawyers out there?
