This worse than letting Shaq ride along on SWAT raids and rough up potentially innocent people. It betrays a lack of seriousness on the part of law enforcement officers (or agencies) who participate. As a citizen, I am expected to take the law seriously by obeying it at all times. When I have gotten pulled over for speeding and had other "official" interactions with law enforcement while a hooligan collge student, I noticed that law enforcement officers demand respect. A citizen isn't doing himself any favors by trying to joke around during one of these encounters. This is all fine and good, but then we read about this garbage...
"Roll call is at 6 o'clock," Muncie Police Chief Joe Winkle told the celebrities. "Do not be late."
"Winkle had to say the line three times. The first take was interrupted by audience applause, the second was too quiet."
What is an intelligent citizen to make of all this? It makes me want to go pee on Chief Winkle's lawn in broad daylight with a bottle of liquor in one hand and a fat doobie in the other. I mean, if it is all one big TV show to him, why should I take it seriously? It's just entertainment, right?
I enjoy Reno 911 occasionally. It meets my poop joke quota. Lets leave the entertaining to the entertainment professionals and the law enforcing to the law enforcement professionals.
