Pony Theft

Okay, as someone who grew up watching Westerns, I know the appropriate way to handle horse thieves involves a hangin'.

If it's a pony are we only supposed to hang-em half way?

I'm curious . . . do you think hanging was a deterrent to horse theft? Since it happened upon capture and not years later I am thinking it might have been.

I think that harsh punishments in general are a deterrent to crime. If a punishment is "measured", "detached" response it doesn't have the same effect.

Go down the left hand column and I have a couple posts about punishment linked to down there.
