The Supreme Court has thrown out two murder convictions because:
There was a whole body of evidence the jury didn't get to hear, the Supreme Court judgment said. Prosecutors and police knew of witnesses - not made available to the defence - who contradicted statements made by others who were presented to the court.
And perhaps most damning of all, the Supreme Court was concerned by circumstances surrounding the so-called confessions by the accused - confessions Taillefer and Duguay said were dictated to them, then beaten out of them.
